3rd batch of the season pressed today, apples from Preston (courtesy of colleague from work), 3 gallons only so limited edition and a potential 7% abv.
This years 2nd batch of Sider has been pressed, 6 gallons this time made from apples from Brimpton Common. Initial specific gravity readings put this batch at a potentially healthy 6.3%.
First pressing of the year done today, just a 5 gallon bin done (early days for apples, and its looking like a bleak harvest this season) but its a start!
Just placed an order for two 30ltr barrels, one chestnut (should sweeten the cider) and one oak (should oak-age the cider) which will be used post fermentation (and probably after a double racking) to enhance the flavour of some of this years Sider.
Unfortunately for reasons unknown Woodley Sider won’t be at the Reading Real Ale & Jazz Festival this year, so the fruit ciders from last years production won’t be available to enjoy!
